380 years ago, Descartes penned the phrase, "Cogito ergo sum" or "I think, therefore I am." He propped up the importance of knowledge in the face of doubt.
320 years later, Martin Luther King said, "Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think."
Why are we dumbing down ourselves? Why has America doubled down on ignorance and intolerance in light of its choice for president? Has history become as obsolete as the future?
Or can 2017 be the year that we think more, do more, defy more and overcome more? This is the week that we celebrate a man who sacrificed his life for all "brothers and sisters" and this is also the week that we inaugurate a man who will sacrifice nothing unless it shores up his own history. Who will America decide to be a more worthy navigator here on?
