Buh-Bye Facebook

Facebook has repeatedly manipulated, stolen, offended and lied. They have embedded with criminals, spies and human rights cannibals.

They apologize over and again, promise a sea change and yet willfully choose to neither effectuate that change nor deactivate universally malignant behavior.

And yet here it is -- boundlessly operating with barely a granule of discipline wrapped in galactic disregard.

Social justice warriors and world-beaters continue to deploy FB to leverage their deeply compromised audiences in what can only be defined as an absurdly perverse paradigm.

Capitalists and capitalism reign supreme.

And average Jills and Joes suckle the candy of look-at-me "friendships" like a sugar-high kid just back from Halloween.

This is not over-sharing. This is colossal weaponizing with not-so-early signs of deadly mass effect.

I abused my better sensibilities by patronizing this platform. Though I have been writing about Facebook on Facebook (and elsewhere) for years, much of such contribution was of the tear-it-up-from-the-inside sort.

Fittingly, tomorrow, New Year's Day, will be the last I give to this morose and tragic playground built by a troglodyte who once said "...some of these people have pretty horrendous facebook pics. I almost want to put some of these faces next to pictures of farm animals and have people vote on which is more attractive."

Regardless, billions of said faces said "eh" and made this Machiavellian prig named Zuckerberg the fifth richest person on the planet.

Months back, I promised myself an exodus would come. Not sure why I waited. Probably denial. Perhaps something more akin to the challenge of dismantling the self-absorbed button on my personal computer.

As a journalist, and as a soon former FB user, I can say without hesitation that this is one place where truth is uber-dangerous fiction. The other place is 1600 Pennsylvania.
